Hydroseeding, or hydro seeding, is the process of seeding an area by coating it with a viscous (wet) liquid. Hydro seeding applications excel on steep hillsides, and other areas where a tractor is either inaccessible or unsuitable for conventional planting methods. Hyrdoseed slurry generally sticks to these elusive areas. The water in the slurry provides moisture and the weight of the included mulch protects the seed, giving it time to germinate. The mulch layer can protect the seed from erosion for a few days up to a few weeks.
Generally Hydro seed slurry is mixed to include seed, mulch, and fertilizers. The hydro seeding operation is custom mixed for each application, just as conventional grass seed, to maximize site growth and durability. Del Ponte grass experts can help you decide on a grass mixture, or we can engineer one suited to your site.
On steep hillsides, and shaded installations, Del Ponte suggests a single application of hydro seeding, and a topcoat application of hydro mulch to protect the seed long enogh to promote good growth.
